(English Translation)
Graham Earnshaw - Project Leader,
with the Village Development Committee
and our signed agreement
The school is in the village of Purano Duwar in the Lamjung region of Nepal and serves several small villages along a high ridge.
There are 340 students and 12 teachers providing education up to 9th grade. The school, however, are keen to achieve full Secondary status and provide education up to 12th grade. Presently older students who want to continue in education have to leave the village.
There is no spare capacity at present. The existing classrooms are overcrowded with mud floors, no heating and only shutters at the windows. There are tables and benches only for the older pupils – the younger children sit on rugs on the floor. The position on the ridge also causes problems – several classrooms have had their roofs blown off.

This is where we come in as the school desperately needs some extra classrooms in order to cater for the older children. The project was instigated at the request of the villagers and has been wholly designed around their needs - see the letter from the school below. The aim of the recent recce visit was to consult as to what exactly is needed and build a rapport with the people with whom the Project Nepal Team will be working in partnership. The villagers have a strong vision of where they want to take the school in the future but need an initial imput of resources and manpower.
